So, I wanted to check on the works of this vendor and chose their Schiavona and a Schiavina: www.wulflund.com/weapons/swords/rapiers-sabres/schiavona-renaissance-sword.html and www.wulflund.com/weapons/swords/other-swords/schiavina-venetian-broadsword-replica.htmlThe Schiavina part I do not understand, but Hey! I ordered them with 95 cm blades and I chose these because those baskets are hard to produce. Everything went okay, the longer blades were no problem and delivery would be in three weeks. That was the 27 of January. We had some email going to and fro and I waited...and waited some more. About 20 minutes ago they emailed me to say: ,,They were so very sorry, but the smith had made them with standard 75cm blades and would I accept that or not? New blades would just take another 2 - 3 weeks?'' You think? I wrote back that I really want my blades at 95cm, so lets do this again shall we? and I want Very Good blades, so I do not mind waiting again. Please do not pull a haste job on me. To show me their progress, they send the two pictures. And I must say, I am impressed. The baskets are not of the perfect cooky cutter thin steel plate cut outs I know from Windlass et all. They have this hammered and forged look of the antiques. They need some cleaning up for sure but I like what I see. I told them so, to make the bitter pill more easely to swallow for them. Hey! I am a nice guy! So, I am in for a long wait again. Balls! Please tell me what you think of the swords so far. I think that for Euro 300+ you get a better deal than Windlass can offer. If you do not hold your breath that is. Wulflund may yet get very busy accommodating Windlass defectors. Cheers.

In the first picture they look somewhat shorter. Hope it is some distortion from the lens. If not I can always shorten them. They need a rewrap anyhow, if only to make them truely mine.

They are a handsome pair. Whether you accept the shorter blade or hold out for the longer is a personal preference. I have no idea what the extra 20 cm will do to the balance or handling. For the difference in price they will probably pickup some of Windlass’ European trade. However, when transportation to the western hemisphere is included it is not so attractive. Whether than judging the grip from the photos, what is the actual length?

I had a gander through some of their other products, and they look pretty nice. And the cost is similar to what you would pay for something out of Irongate

Whether than judging the grip from the photos, what is the actual length? I want them as Cavalry swords, not the standard Infantry sword. I do not have any idea what happens with the longer blades. If push comes to shove I can always shorten them. I see enough steel on those hilts to make me think it might be alright. These look quite thick. Windlass and Cold Steel use much thinner steel plate. Standard hilt length on all one handers is about 14.5 cm. I use this to find out the length of the blades when no info is offered. Works quite well when the picture is not distorted too much. Shipping is killing, but If these turn out alright, Wulflund could be a cheapish way to get that extra special personal sword you always wanted. Even with the killer shipping, you could be better off than going to an American blade smith. Altough they will do much better work I am sure.

Kind of curious how the blades will turn out in construction and finish.

I ordered them sharp and long. No talk about taper, just straight from the catalogue. I am curious too, but finding out what they can do is what this excercise is about. Do not get your hopes up too hight, they are not A&A or Pavel Mok. Maybe, after this, I will go and see how far they can be made to go in the custom sphere, like mixing blades and hilts, or ordering a blade with some special feature. Depends on what they send me. For European based buyers, who had to pay 22% on the KOA price before Windlass went and did ,,The Deed'' and now have to shelve out even more $$$ to get a Windlass, it may be worth while to follow this thread. See it like this: If one can get a blade that is of Windlass quality and made to order too, so like a SUPER Windlass, for a price less than a regular Windlass when imported from the US, I know what I am going to do.

Ulahn, I purchased a blade from Wolflund back in January, this guy: www.wulflund.com/weapons/swords/other-swords/scottish-backsword-16th-century-exact-battle-ready-replica.htmlI asked for some relatively minor modifications like a brown grip wrap, bluing on hilt components, and a sharpened back edge for 6 or so inches from the tip. Just received an update that it should ship this Friday. Just thought I'd chime in since I'm in a similar boat. I plan to do a thread on it when it gets in. Funny enough, there was a minor communication mishap where the payment request from them kept showing the blade ordered as the "Venetian Schiavina". We got it cleared up, but I laughed a little when I saw your thread on the same blade. They've been friendly and timely in communication throughout the whole process. Your blades look good. Regarding the non-cookie cutter appearance of the guards, that is something that I also appreciate and am hoping to see with my sword overall. The blades on the few pieces they have on Kult of Athena seem to show hammer marks and have a hand forged look to them, which I like.

Saga goes on.
After blades with the wrong length and having to replace them, now my swords are stuck in some Czech depo. Been there now for a couple of weeks it seems. Nothing moving. Just sitting there. Emailed Wulflund and they hate me, they hate my order, the Dutch in general and the air we breathe. They want to stomp a great big hole into our piece of the earth. They litteraly said: this order is cursed. But they are working on it.......

And so they did.....
The latest news is that as soon as the swords were out of the country, Czech DHL, the only tracking website I got, stopped tracking. No wonder nothing moved! The swords were since long under control of Dutch DHL and stuck in their depo since 8-5, Wulflund reported. They gave a telephone number and the Dutch tracking number. Thanks Wulflund! I emailed Dutch DHL and hope to get answers on Monday. So, maybe next week??????
